Textile cable - Installation instructions
smartect textile cables allow for the safe, flexible and visually high-quality installation of lights, pendant lamps and designer lamps.
The fabric covering protects the cable, ensures a sophisticated appearance and allows for a deliberately visible cable routing.
This guide shows you step by step how to correctly install a smartect textile cable.
Safety instructions
The following points must be observed before each installation:
- This cable must only be installed and connected by qualified professionals.
- Before installation, interrupt the electrical circuit (switch off the fuse).
- Work on electrical connections may only be carried out when the power is off.
- Use the textile cable only with suitable sockets, lights and mains connections.
- Damaged cables must not be installed or reused.
- Make sure that all connections are screwed in tightly and securely.

Preparation
You will need:
- smartect textile cable
- Lamp socket or light fixture
- Ceiling connection or canopy
- screwdriver
- Wire strippers (if required)
- smartect cable holder (optional, for visible cable routing)
- smartect textile cable
-
1. Determine the position
First, determine:
- Where the lamp should hang or stand
- Where the power connection is located
- How the cable should be routed (straight ahead, sideways, visibly on the wall)
If the cable is to be routed visibly, the combination with smartect cable holders is recommended for a clean line.
- Where the lamp should hang or stand
-
2. Prepare textile cables (optional)
If required:
- Cut the cable to the desired length.
- Carefully strip the ends of the cables.
- Be careful not to damage the fabric covering.
The two inner conductors must be cleanly exposed to ensure a secure electrical contact.
- Cut the cable to the desired length.
-
3. Connection to the lamp socket
- Open the lamp socket.
- Feed the textile cable through the strain relief of the socket.
- Connect the two cable wires to the terminals of the socket (phase, neutral and protective conductor).
- Tighten all screws securely.
- Close the lamp socket again.
The strain relief prevents the cable from being pulled on later and protects the electrical contacts.
- Open the lamp socket.
-
4. Connection to the power supply
- Open the ceiling canopy or the junction box.
- Connect the wires of the textile cable to the power connection in the ceiling.
- Securely screw the clamps in place.
- Place the canopy over the connection point and secure it.
- Open the ceiling canopy or the junction box.
-
5. Visible cable routing (optional)
If the textile cable is to be visibly routed on the wall or ceiling:
- Place smartect cable holders along the desired cable route.
- Secure the cable inside at even intervals.
- Ensure a clean, straight line for a high-quality appearance.
In this way, the cable is deliberately incorporated into the design.
- Place smartect cable holders along the desired cable route.
SAFETY NOTICE
This cable must only be installed and connected by qualified professionals. Disconnect the power before installation!
How to properly shorten textile cables
-
Measure the cable to the desired length, wrap the cut end with insulating tape and cut it with cable pliers.
-
Reattach insulating tape approximately 2-3 cm away from the cut and remove the sheathing using wire strippers.
-
Insulate the wires using wire strippers. Done!
